I really wonder why Square-Enix is sooo secretive bout this..
I mean, they were all out on Final Fantasy 13..
Maybe their trying to build a hype or something..and its working..
I CAN'T WAIT FOR NEWS!!!
PLEASE LET THERE BE NEWS WHEN TGS COMES!!!

Marketing strategy.
They've been closed up with XIII, they just opened a bit to the public close to it's release.
Also, something tells me that they've been putting this game in a secondary priority.
Both Versus XIII and Agito XIII depend a bit on the main title, and the truth is, the main title didn't have that much success they were expecting.

"In March 2010, Square Enix stated that Final Fantasy XIII became the fastest selling title in the franchise's history."
If you take a look at the review scores on the right, you'll see that only two critics gave the game a score lower than 8, and both were still 7+. I think you're listening to the vocal minority too much.
Anyway, back to the topic. They haven't talked much about Versus because they didn't start working on most of it until after they were done with 13, so the game hasn't really progressed to where they have something to show. That said, they have been showing a demo to the press recently, so it's likely we'll see something at TGS.

Wow, fastest selling, hum? Let's take a closer look, shall we?
Final Fantasy VII sold 9.8 million copies.
Final Fantasy VIII sold 8.15 million.
Final Fantasy IX sold 5.30 million.
Final Fantasy X sold 6.6 million.
Final Fantasy XII sold 5.2 million.
Final Fantasy XIII sold only 2.6 million, that's less then any of the previous 5 direct installments of the series.
I know that it's still on sale, but after a few weeks on any market, specially in the japanese, the sales drop a lot. Note that the japanese marker represents the great majority of SE investments.

For a company that invested all that much on this game, do you think that they're having the success that they expected?
Fastest selling doesn't imply best selling at all.
I think you're listening to the fan voices too much.

Final Fantasy IX sold 5.30 million.
Sorry, but I can't help it. That number should have been much larger....

That 9.8 million for FF7 was the game's total sales as of December 2005, nearly nine years after its release. I don't know where you got 2.6 million, but FF13 has sold 5.5 million as of May 31, which is less than half a year after its release in Japan. If it were to continue selling at the same pace (which, admittedly, is very unlikely) it would, in a single year, more than double FF7's nine-year sales.

I used the same source you used, different page (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_best-selling_video_games).
Very well, I appologize if my misinformation deeply offended you above (http://www.videogameslive.com/forums/showpost.php?p=32523&postcount=3). Usually my least concern is checking entertainment companies receipts, priority that may put me outdated on the matter. To avoid further hatred seeding in the near future, I shall consult you prior to coment on simillar issues.

Yeah, I really like FFIX even though the first time I played it was only last year. The only real complaint I have about it is the slow battle speed, especially the way it makes you wait forever just for the battle just to get started, but other than that it's one of my favorite FF games that I've played. I don't have 7 and I've only played some of 8 and still can't really get into the battle system, so 9's return to more basic gameplay was nice :D

I certainly didn't intend to imply that I took offense to anything you said. I was simply commenting that I believed your statement had been influenced mainly by the negative reactions of other people on the internet whom I believed were in the minority and were, therefore, not an accurate representation of the game's general reception, especially considering the game's strong sales and critical reception.

Sorry if I offend any fanboys here but say what you will, Final Fantasy XIII was a cheesy-publicity stunt-profit-focussed attempt to copy the success of Final Fantasy VII..
Even Tetsuya himself said that the creation of Lightning was based on Cloud..
This is one of the cases where the game failed to live to the hype it build..
There was so much disappointment when I played it that I could stop facepalming myself everytime I hear the word Final Fantasy XIII..
I'm sorry, but I played the game only because of my personal achievement that is to play every single FF game..
I can only hope that Versus XIII doesn't share the same fate..

'Nuff said. :D

This sound offended to me. I based my opinion on the information that I had, that was all.
Anyway, let's put this behind us.

Actually I said VIII not VII..:p
But glitches are often very funny and I enjoy it a lot..
Flaws in a game (rubbish story, illogical scenarios etc.) however is quite unforgivable..

Update: Sorry for multi-threading (CPU? :p) but got some new info..some of you guys may already know but I'm just posting it just for anybody who still in the clouds..
During an interview with Famitsu, Nomura stated that he was unsure whether Versus would be shown at E3 2010.
On June 23, new in-game screenshots and details about Versus had been revealed, and that it will appear at the 2010 Tokyo Game Show.
On June 29, an issue of Dengeki Playstation states that Nomura has completed all character designs and the scenario is now finished as well.
