I', not sure whether this topic had come up or not but..
I know a lot of people are thinking the same thing and I'm still wondering why VGL still don't have a dedicated band?
For example, Distant Worlds music from Final Fantasy have The Chicago Mages and considering how many scores is performed in rock version (like Megaman, Chrono Cross/Trigger, Castlevania, Halo) wouldn't it be easy and awesome to have a dedicated VGL band?
It'll require more resource but Tommy and Jack are already good with guitars, so all thats left are a bassist and someone on percussion..

Well, technically we've had our own dedicated pianist, although I'll admit its not quite the same thing.
The main difference between VGL and Distant Worlds is that VGL is a global touring concert, whereas Distant Worlds only tours North America and a few parts of Asia. As such it is much easier to transport the band around NA compared to the entire planet.
The other thing is Tommy and GANG advocates local start up talent, cover bands and the like, so it seems more appropriate to make use of the local talents rather than forming their own touring band. What it would mean is that every different location would be slightly different, but also that not every concert would benefit from it.
To be honest, I've never had the chance to experience Distant Worlds or any of the other similar concert series organised by SquareEnix, so I'm not entirely sure how the whole thing works, but VGL tends only to use the extra stuff as part of the warmup act prior to the actual show rather than as part of the main body of segments.
Besides, you've got a perfectly good symphony orchestra there, might as well make full use of them!

Yes, they do tour mostly North America but they also tours Europe with makes me wonder why they haven't decided on a world tour, because Final Fantasy has a very huge fan base globally..

I think it extremely awesome that Tommy wants to pull in local people to perform at VGL shows. It helps local groups gain exposure and lets the audience hear a group they might otherwise have never seen or heard of. Whether or not they are any good is a whole different story, but at least the opportunity is there.
Almost makes me want to start up a band out of the hope that I might get to play at a show. Anyone need a drummer? :D
