Has anyone heard anything about a Legend of Zelda movie? A friend told me someone was making one, live action, not cartoon, but I haven't been able to find out any details online. Is it just wishful thinking?

Somebody did make a fan movie, but that's about all I can think of. I haven't heard anything else.
The Hero of Time, is the fan movie. It has been posted a link here a while ago. I haven't seen it yet but they say it's quite good for a fan movie.

The project was also crushed by Nintendo and likely 90% of it existence erased from the internet.
You can view the official website here (http://www.theherooftime.com/), though its probably just there for posterity rather than serving any significant use.

Aww man, I missed it! Thanks for posting the link though. I would have loved to see the movie.

Thanks to the foresight of JakeSnke17 in seeing that the movie would likely get quashed, he actually downloaded it to his computer and then reuploaded it for download.
Unfortunately, the link has since died, but so that it isn't lost completely I've reuploaded it here! (http://www.zshare.net/video/7568844442189e10/) Hopefully that should remain active for a while yet...

I also have a copy, and if you want it uploaded elsewhere, I can do that too.

I've uploaded a copy here (http://www.megaupload.com/?d=GC74USOJ), but do realize it's larger than 100 MB. If you can't download it, let me know and I'll split them up.

I've personally never heard of the movie coming out. I hope to God that they get a decent actor to play Link. :[

Yep, it was a fan movie. I only saw segments of it and wasn't overly crazy about it (I don't know, maybe if I watched the whole thing I'd change my mind), but I do appreciate all the time and effort they put into making it. Too bad it was taken down so quickly.

On the topic, I'd like to remind everyone that the Mega Man movie comes out on Friday for viewing on the internet! Like the LoZ one, I'm not sure how long it will remain before someone decides they don't want it on the internet any more, so I'd recommend checking it out sooner rather than later!

Somehow, I doubt Capcom will come after Eddie Lebron's movie. Seth Killian, Capcom's Community Manager, has been posting about Joey Ansah and Streetlight Films' "Street Fighter: Legacy" short film that's supposed to be release on the internet sometime today over at Capcom-Unity. If they're okay with that, I'd bet they're okay with Lebron's film.

I can understand about issues with copyright infringement and piracy, but you'd think that Nintendo would allow the film to continue if it is clearly labeled as a fan film and isn't making any profits.

It's still Nintendo's copyright and intellectual property, and they have the right to protect it in any way, even if it is fan made and non-profit.
Not that I agree with it, but I respect their position.
Nintendo as always had a very close development circle very monitorized by the company. For example Nintendo 64 games were mostly made by Nintendo itself and closed associated parties. They decided back them that they just wanted to released quality games (rated in their standarts), and rarely supported third-parties. Fan creations of course were always shutted down.
In some contries their policies are considered illegal, as certain constituitions give development rights to interested third parties for the cathegory of platforms that videogame consoles are realeased in.

Wow, that was so cool! I just got finished watching the movie. Thank you so much for uploading it. I just bookmarked it, and hopefully it will stay up for awhile. :D

I saw this when it first came out on Dailymotion. You have to give these people credit. You can tell they put a lot of time and hard work into this. I personally enjoyed it and I wish Nintendo wasn't quite so stingy about their characters. I can certainly understand why they are, I just hate that all the actors and crew worked so much on this film only to have it taken down.

if only they monitored the CD-i games so closely... ~shudder~
but yeah, there isn't a real Zelda movie. in addition to Hero of Time, there was also the live-action April Fool's prank trailer (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=HBCzkz3gHb8) pulled together by Rainfall Films and IGN.
evidently a bunch of people are trying to pull together to get Nintendo to accept/make one too (see: Zelda Project (http://www.zeldauniverse.net/zelda-news/the-zelda-project-hope-for-a-live-action-film/)). doubt it'll work...but that pic of Saria is like, whoa.

LOL
CD-i wasn't a Nintendo platform, so they didn't really cared about it, I guess.
I'm surprised they've alowed the games, actually, even if they were to make it up for leaving Philips in the SNES CD-player.
In the end, it was kind of historical, Nintendo franchises running on a platform developed by Philips and Sony.

How would you do a real Zelda movie? I mean, if you were the director and in charge of the story, how would you tell it? A lot of Zelda games involves running around collecting things so I've always wondered how they would deal with that.

There are some titles with a bit more complex story. But obviously it would be an adventure movie, and relay part of it in battle sequences as many do.
I would change a few things for a greater audience, specially visual, and maybe gather plot elements from the various games.

Yeah, I think they could make it more of an adventure movie. Although it'd be difficult to make a movie about a Zelda game, the fact that Zelda's story is not overly complex might be an advantage, as it can be molded more easily than say, a FF game (which would usually have a more specific story).
