For those who follow the Gregorian Callendar, happy new year. May the best of 2009 be no more than the worse of 2010.

For all others, may you have an excellent continuation of the current year.

Prosperity to all above.

I too wish everyone a Happy New Year as well!

A toast to everyone and to VGL for a prosperous future! :)

Oh, just to note that those who live on the east side of the Atlantic Ocean will have a Partial Lunar Eclipse whereas the west will have a Blue Moon tonight; that is if you can see it.

:) Yaaay, I live on the west side of the Atlantic. Thanks for the info, didn't know.

I don't remember ever seeing a blue moon though. :(

I can't drink, but since the toast is virtual, I'll join. xD

xD Blue moon is the name given to the second full moon in a calendar month, not specifically a moon that is blue :D Its a fairly rare event, hence the phrase 'once in a blue moon'.

Happy new year to everyone that is east of the UK, and happy soon-to-be new year to everyone to the west!!

I know, but I don't remember seing one. When I was a kid I was very into astronomy and such. I have a few stellar maps somewhere.

But I guess the fact that it takes too long to see some "action" in the sky, made me dedicate to other stuff. xD

Not quite. It was a misinterpretation of the Farmer's Almanac made in 1946 that led to the current thinking of an extra moon in a month as the blue moon. In truth, according to the Almanac, every season should have three full moons and if four occur, the third moon overall is the blue moon. Basically, while the full moon on New Year's Eve was considered a blue moon under the twice-in-a-month system, the full moon on November 21st, 2010 is the blue moon under the original definition.

Cool, I thought a blue moon was the second in a month, interesting to know it's a misinterpretation. Once i had read that when there's a vulcaninc eruption, particles in the atmosphere turn the moon blue and that's what was a blue moon.

Welcome to 2010 anyway.

I stand corrected! I'd imagine that would make much more sense!
