Yes! I am returning my random game related questions only now each one will be its own thread....Myrph told me to.
However this one will contain two questions......
1.) Have you ever dressed up like a video game character for Halloween? If so who was it? If you have dressed up as a game character, but not for Halloween, what was the occasion… besides cosplaying.
2.) When playing, was there ever a time when you really got scared because of something from the game? What game was it and why?
When I was younger I wore a Sonic the Hedgehog costume.
I've mentioned this before, but when I was younger I was extremely worried about getting near that Eel from Super Mario 64.
edit: "Looks at number" SPARTA!!!

I never wanted to die in Oregon Trail. Therefore, dysentery became my most hated disease.
Oh, and the headcrabs, to this day, scare me.
Congrats on the 300 mark! (This is madness?)

Zero/Fatal Frame/Project Zero (too many titles, world) is a series with the unique ability of chilling me to the bone. In particular the beautifully crafted second game. No specific events (aside from the odd clever bit in a cutscene (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=i76VBRCVxrs)) spring to mind, but the combat system was ingeniusly designed to keep the tension high by more or less requiring you wait for Zero Shot and Fatal Frame opportunities, which basically means waiting until a ghost slowly shambles right up to you (while a distorted cacophony of noise builds up - supposedly the camera charging), then looks you right in the eye the moment before attacking. Good use of first person, that.
But then, that was meant to be scary.

Umm, I must admit, I haven't played a huge number of scary games, although The Last Express (an Agatha Christie inspired murder mystery game) seriously creeped me out when I was younger, as did that creepy dance that people getting abducted by aliens did in the game version of Bruce Coville's My Teacher is an Alien.
More recently, I'm regularly creeped out by Yahtzee's Chzo Mythos games (for pixellated adventure games, dang those things are creepy!!), as well as The Clocktower for the SNES, one of the games which inspired Yahtzee! I guess there is something about a ghost who possesses people, makes them dress up in a leather apron and welder's mask with a giant machete that is quite scary, much like a small bloated child who wanders around a seemingly deserted mansion with a pair of scissors, twice his own size...

Understandable. It's a marvelous game though.

I'm sorry, what? I have never heard of this game and I heartily enjoyed those books as a kid (I still have all four autographed by Coville). Screenshots!

I have a friend who swears by the greatness of Scissorman.

I probably ought to dig it out sometime and actually try playing it... See how it actually plays out!

I'll do one better! A Youtube video of screenshots! (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=DSF1xcuiAgU) 0:11 for creepy dancing abducted child!
TBH, I only ever came across it once in my local library quite a few years ago, and have never come across it again since! EDIT ~ That being said, the internet is a glorious thing...

I still need to play the sequels and see more Scissorman. A project for myself as and when I get the time...

Ashamedly, I hardly ever cosplay.
In terms of scary moments, the first I can remember was playing Lego Island 2 and there's a bit where you have to deliver a pizza to this criminal called the Brickster. He's locked up in jail, but I was still scared. Don't ask me why, because as soon as you go close, it goes to a cutscene and you don't even fight him or anything.
Playing Resident Evil was also extremely scary (for example, the cutscene where you see the first zombie). Firstly, it's meant to be scary. Second, I was about five (don't ask).
Not scary as such, but when playing Final Fantasy VII, and you go into a random battle. That sound effect that plays makes me jump about half the time. It's strange, but I've never got used to that.
Also encountering Jason in the NES game Friday the 13th is pretty jump-y. You're walking around this building, and he suddenly appears in front of you. I usually never have a good thing to say about LJN, but at least they suceeded in making me jump!

Clock Tower 3 and spiritual successor Haunting Ground are two of the most messed up, horrific and disturbing games ever made.
I love them so.

What are your thoughts about the supposed Clock Tower movie in 2010?

It's a film of a videogame.
There end my thoughts.

Indeed. There are two listed on eBay right now. Here's the cheaper one (http://cgi.ebay.com/MY-TEACHER-IS-AN-ALIEN-BRUCE-COVILLE-PC-GAME-NEW-IN-BOX_W0QQitemZ250356321440QQcmdZViewItemQQptZVideo_ Games_Games?hash=item3a4a664ca0).

The very first Resident Evil had a knack for scaring the hell out of me. Specially the scene when the zombie comes out of the closet (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=CtQIZ5fuflI).
And not scary, but I find it interesting for the topic here... After I played the first Xenosaga, everytime I hear The Song of Nephilim (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=EqiSdeyxZFc) I feel shivers going up and down my spine, the game experience simply made that song... disturbing for me.

I remember watching that years ago. I can still remember the bit with the elevator chopping the head off between the doors and the laser room scene.

LOL! I loved playing Lego Island 2! That is until the computer crashed.
Yeah, the other way that games spook me is by unsuspecting loud noises. Most recently was at Booster's Tower in SMRPG where there is an empty room with coins; I was aware that there had to be a hidden enemy, but when it came it made a loud exploding sound that made me jump.

1) This year I dressed up like Luigi, both for Halloween and for work. A co-worker came in as Mario. Good times.
2) Poison headcrabs scare the crud outta me. I also don't like the small, red, armored insects in Jet Force Gemini, oftentimes found in air ducts. They make creepy sounds as they walk...
